The paradox at the center of the services reckoning, named on the day of the Infosys succession.
The better the AI story, the more it argues against the model telling it.

The industry's most-read analyst named the mechanism on the day of the Infosys succession: every gain in productivity a provider creates puts pressure on its own labor-based revenue. It is the highest-credibility outside statement of the reckoning the whole tier is living through, and it lands exactly where the tape did.

The paradox is why disclosure did not save any of the four majors this week. A firm can post a record AI share and still be marked down, because the same productivity that produces the AI line erodes the labor line the business is priced on. The better the AI story, the more it argues against the model telling it.

It also explains the shape of the whole tier's week. Every firm that leaned into its AI story was, by the analyst's logic, advertising the erosion of its own base. Infosys disclosed a record AI share and was marked down. IBM pointed to a growing AI book and was marked down. The disclosure is not the cure; it is the diagnosis, read aloud by the patient.

The resolution is not to tell the story better. It is to change what the client walks away owning, so the productivity gain becomes an asset the provider is paid for rather than a discount to the revenue it replaces.

The paradox only bites a labor-based model. Consulting-as-Code resolves it: the productivity gain is captured as an asset the client owns, so the provider is paid for the outcome, not the hours it erases. The analyst named the trap; the answer is to stop being priced on the thing AI is eating.
